About Lancaster Comics Day

Lancaster Comics Day was an annual event at Lancaster Library, organised by comics editor and writer John Freeman, The Friends of Lancaster Library, working in partnership with Lancaster Library and the Lakes International Comic Art Festival.

The first Lancaster Comics Day, organised by The Friends of Lancaster Library, took place in June 2015 and proved a tremendous success, raising £800 for the Library, which will in part be used to buy black out curtains for the “Sanctuary” room.

The most recent event took place in 2017, with plans for a return currently on hiatus, not helped by the Pandemic and reduced library services to support the project.

We are very grateful for the support of local business, especially First Age Comics on Moor Lane for their help with past events.

Past guests have included comics writer Andy DiggleHellblazer and Doctor Who artist John Ridgway, 2000AD and Big Finish writer Eddie Robson, Roy of the Rovers artist David Sque, cartoonist and comics writer Lew Stringer, Doctor Who and Judge Dredd artist Dave Taylor, among others, and many local and Lancashire-based comic creators. Local authors and retailers also attended our events.
